Today was a lazy day, yet a hike was in order

I met up with Nathan, Pam, my mom and Marley for a walk at Reed Canyon again. Though the beautiful blooming trees are the cause of my current allergies, it was a nice walk nonetheless.

Here are some more photos I took today. Not the nicest camera but it sure does take nice pics!

I hate bowling

yet, somehow I bowled a 177 tonight. Strikes are awesome.
I got into a groove like you wouldn't believe. Frickin' crazy.

Subs? We don't need no stinking subs!

Actually, it would be nice to have some.
Let me recap on our 12:15am game tonight (um, this morning)

  • Kristina
  • Joyce
  • Jane
  • Karen
  • Dani
  • me
  • Gabe
  • Nathan
  • Zach
First half Jane played keeper. She stopped a few, but let 4 go by. In the last few minutes, Zach scored our first goal, starting the rally.

Halftime: 1-4 them... :-(

2nd half I go in as keeper. This means if a guy wants to sub out, he subs out with a gal. We have very talented gals though, so this wasn't an issue.
We scored, 2-4. They scored (lucky really...) 2-5.

With 10 minutes left we scored again, 3-5. We're tired, but we're still running. You can tell they are slowing down. Their keeper is still blocking our shots though. We do a great job of keeping the ball up on their half. 4 minutes left (or something like that) we score again. 4-5. It's looking like a rally is happening!

They're not converting their chances, yet neither are we. 90 seconds left and the ball is down on our side. We move it up the right and start taking shots. Gabe. Joyce. Nathan. Joyce again probably. Finally, with maybe 10 or 15 seconds left, we get one in!!! Gabe and Jane were down in the mix, and that last goal went off Jane's head.

How happy are we to tie at 5-5? Extremely happy. Like, ecstatic. Like, blue card from Zach jumping over the railing happy.

While we were counting on more people to show up, we still played our hearts out, and it showed. We couldn't have asked for a better game. Division 4b looks to be hella fun.

We are off next weekend, which is good because I'll be in Bishop, and the weekend after, April 7th, 7:15pm. While this happens to be 15 minutes into UFC 69, I don't care. I'll be back from Bishop and ready to play. Luckily I can hit the 10pm showing of UFC at Hooters anyway!

St. Patty's Day '07

St. Patty's Day any-year doesn't really mean too much to me, but this was a nice one. After sleeping in a bit yesterday morning, I decided to hit up the Reed Canyon trail, which had been highly recommended to me by a neighbor-friend Andreas.I even brought along my camera and snapped a few photos for shits and giggles. The trail was very peaceful and quite beautiful, and I'll enjoy running it soon.

We also had a soccer game last night, which we won. Zach scored 3 (the 3rd was off the keeper's back!), Karen 1, Bobby 1, Nick 1, and I had 1. They only scored 1 on us. Brandon, Nathan's friend from Chesterton, played keeper for the 2nd half and did an amazing job, despite letting one slip past him.

Notable moments:
  • Zach getting hip-checked and falling on his ass
  • Amy BLASTING some poor girl (who actually went to Wash U) in the stomach
  • Brandon taking out 2 of their players by diving for the ball (one being the stomach girl)
  • me turning around and hugging some girl on the other team to keep from knocking her on her ass
  • me explaining to the other team that Joe Neff doesn't know shit about soccer because he's a model. Serious.
Then there was Zach and Nick's St. Patty's party. Beer pong and flippy cup, lots of drunk people, and me spitting out vodka-infused jello because I didn't know it had vodka in it before I put it my mouth.

That's pretty much it!

Livin' in the HOT Zone!

First, some asshole gets pulled over by the police in Trader Joe's parking lot and his buddy in the back decides to get out and run, shooting his gun at the cops. The dude runs up the hill and into my neighborhood, so the police block off this area.

But before I got home from Quizzy night and working out, they caught the guy.

Shit's all good now.

Clean Sheet with a Goal to boot!

Tonight's soccer game was a good one. With a few extra girls and only 1 extra guy we rattled some cages with 4 or 5 - 0 victory (the scoreboard wasn't working)

I had a pretty good save in the last seconds of the first half as keeper. Diving to my left, I had to stretch out as far as possible to keep the damn ball from going in.

After Nathan scored his second goal during the second half, I came out of goal and ran a bit. I'm so out of shape. While I had some good runs, and managed to score one (almost 2) I was severely out of breath. Lesson to be learned is that I need to run more. So, I'm gonna pick up jogging again. I'm also looking at 24" cruiser BMX bikes too. There are a few in town that could be a go. We'll see!

Favorite Book

Hmm, this is a hard one.
Do I go with the one I've read the most, being Hercules?

Or, the book that got me started reading a bunch of twisted, dark, highly entertaining books, which is Choke...

I could geek out and pick Agile Web Development with Rails but I won't.

Even though I only read it once, my senior year of high school, I think I'll go with Crime & Punishment. I had my thinking cap on for quite a long time, which helped me expand my critical thinking beyond the level I had known.

Bailey, go for it!
