the day she left

It's been 9 years since we met. Turns out it's been 5 years since I last saw Laeti, not 4 like I originally thought. Have my feelings changed? Nope. I know she's with Eric; he's a great guy. I only wish I had a friend like him in the States. He's one of those guys I could go climbing with, kayaking with, skydiving with... play soccer with, etc., but it still kinda hurts that it's not me she's with.

Talking to Bobby tonight, I happened to say that maybe I should have moved to France. He pointed out that "should haves" aren't worth thinking about, and I think he's right. It's still hard to turn my thoughts when they drift that way.

If there really is only one person out there for me, one soulmate, at least I know who she is. If there's more than one, then at least I know what to look for.

It was a good week, but very trying toward the end. I thought I was handling it pretty well, until yesterday. I could feel something bubbling up, so I isolated myself for a while. The last thing I wanted to do was be upset around her, since she didn't deserve it. She saw through it though. Of course she did... she knows me all too well.

I didn't even know how badly I needed to see her until she was gone. Figures...

I jumped out of a plane today

and it was a hell of a good time! I had told my friend Eric that I would go skydiving with him while he was here. Today happened to have the nicest weather, so we decided to head out to Skydive Oregon in Molalla (nice little town, don't ever want to go back)

It took about 10 minutes to initial every single fucking paragraph on the waiver, but once I got through it I was ready to go. Little did I know I'd sit around, waiting for almost 2 hours. What I noticed while I waited was my level of nervousness/excitement. The noticeable thing was that I was excited, yet not nervous at all. In fact, I didn't get that adrenaline rush until I started walking toward the plane.

The ride up was fine. Normal, cramped plane with a bunch of adrenaline junkies ready to get their fix. Eric was going to dive with some Austrian guy and I was hooked up tandem to an instructor. I was the last to jump out, and those first 10 seconds were fucking killer.

Once I got oriented, I could enjoy the free-fall. I had heard you couldn't breath while free-falling but I got enough in and out of my nose to be juuuuuuuuust fine.

When the instructor pulled the chute, we came to a nice little halt (going from 120 mph to 10 mph is, um, rough on the nuts) and coasted for a bit. He "let" me steer (ha, not really, but hey, it was nice of him to entertain the notion) and we chilled for a bit.

Landing was nice and easy, and that was that! All the damn spinning kinda made me motion sick, but luckily it wasn't too bad. All in all, a good day, mainly because I didn't die... you know, 'cause I jumped out of a plane. ;-)

It's been 4 years

but tomorrow I pick up Laetitia and Eric from the airport. Laeti, if you remember, was a (very) long distance girlfriend of mine in high school and through junior year of college. Luckily we're remained friends over the years. I haven't seen her since the summer of '02.

Eric is her boyfriend of the last 4 years. Most people think I'm a little crazy that I'm so excited to see my ex with her bf, but the romantic relationship we had turned into the greatest friendship. I know Eric's a good guy, so I have no reason to be unhappy for them. On the contrary!

Hopefully I'll have plenty of pics to share.

Put yer PJs on

A friend from the climbing gym had a pajama jam last night. My first party consisting of a bunch of drunk people wearing their pajamas. I thought there'd be a little more nudity. Guess I was wrong. I did win a stupid-human trick game but kinda hurt my shoulder in the process. The respect was worth it!

UFC 64... ass whoopin'

Hooters again. Nathan and Pam came up from school for the weekend and we headed out to Beav for the fight. Sherk dominated Florian, which wasn't a suprise. What was a nice suprise was how Silva DOMINATED Franklin. I figured it would be a great fight. I thought it would go a few rounds until one knocked out the other. Alas, Silva kneed Franklin so hard in the face Franklin's nose decided to shift about 2 inches to the right. Un-fucking-real.

UFC 65 should be a good one!

Storm and some Balls

Tonight I went to see Storm Large and the Balls. You may know of Storm from Rock Star but I had not seen her on that show. My friend Karen (who doesn't like live shows) wanted to go (actually, I think I still owe her money for the ticket!) and I figured it'd be alright.

The music was a strange mix of covers. You'd hear the music from one song and the lyrics from another, in a lounge-ish style. It was half cabaret, half concert. All in all, it was fun. Friday the 13th!

Yes, I did actually go back to Smith

It had been over 2 years, but I made it back down to Smith Rocks. Karen, Lola and I drove down Friday night and camped in the clear Oregon "desert-ish" skies.

Saturday, though I didn't really eat breakfast, I warmed up by sending an 11a. The supposed crux was right off the deck, though I didn't think it was that hard. Later however, I went a bit right instead of going a bit left. This definitely made the route 11a, if not a tad bit harder. Needless to say I hung on and sent. It was a great route, and Patrick took LOTS of pics. I'll post some as soon as I get them.

I also (for shits and giggles) got on Chain Reaction, classic 12c cover of the guide book. Up to the first crux on the arete was easy. The first crux? Hard. I didn't even make it past, though I'm pretty sure I could do the rest if I did make it past. Anyway, it was fun to fall on bolts again.

Sat night was Jaime's birthday party. I didn't watch the slideshow, as I was comfortable by the fire. Bad jokes and good conversations flew about.

Sunday I ate enough for breakfast then met up with Amy and Dave for some bouldering. The one boulder we found was quite nice. In fact, I'll be going straight there to warm up instead of waiting forever for easier routes to open up.

After my tendonitis kicked in I met up with Karen, then we bolted. She had a BADASS mix of songs from middle school, which was quite entertaining.

All in all, a very good weekend!
