Mostly Crystal is my new favorite Firefox Theme. I was all about Noia Extreme for a while but this new one seems a bit cleaner and nicely brighter.

Shake, rattle and Quake

That's right. Around 6pm last night Portland had an earthquake. Bobby and I were watching tv and felt the tremor, which we thought was someone running around downstairs. Ended up being a 2.8-2.9 quake. According to KATU News the quake was centered in the Laurelhurst area. When I did some digging, I found the the epicenter to supposedly be NE 31st and Burnside.

I think I'm going to buy a house

It may be about time. If I can get into a fixer for less than $250k I might be ok. Of course, less than $200k would be ideal. I'm also figuring that my dad could come up in the winter to help renovate. If anything it's fun looking!

Hey Dude?!?

So the other day on KUFO someone asked for what I thought was Metallica doing "Hey Dude"

Ends up it was Beatallica doing "Hey Dude" which is a parody of "Hey Jude" in Metallica form. Pretty funny stuff really. While their songs are out there on p2p networks, you can check them out easily over at NPR.

No shit?!?

Why did ABC cancel 'Emily' after 1 show? Because we could all tell it was going to flop before seeing the pilot. I mean, c'mon! She's pretty but much better in movies.

the Legacy of a "Stupid" President

Today I thought of something interesting: Are there former Presidents of the US that were actually viewed as stupid or having low intelligence. Not just bad governing... beyond that. And if there were, who were they and what did they do (or not do) to earn such a reputation.

It would makes sense to then ask what the notion of having an idiot president actually does to the longstanding reputation of the country? It might be interesting to ask a history professor or find it in a book. Maybe if I get bored I'll head down to Powell's and poke around.

I'd assume there's been no president in the past that reminded the people of their retarded cousin (not France... Belgium) as much as our current Bu$h does.

I might be in trouble

Ok, so I went to play poker with a bunch of guys last night. Hella fun. We then decided to go to a strip club and the Dolphin II was chosen. I had never been there, and it wasn't too bad.

I saw this girl sitting a few tables away. I thought she was on a date with the guy she was sitting with. We smiled at each other quite a few times. Hell, I was looking at her more than the dancers on stage, and I think she could tell. She had a normal top on, but when she stood up, I saw she wasn't wearing any pants, just underwear bottoms. I was kinda suprised but not disappointed.

She came over and sat next to me, telling me she was up next on the main stage. We chatted for 30 seconds or so then she got up. She was a great dancer, actually dancing to the music instead of just writhing around. Seemed like she danced most of her set right in front of me. She bent down and gave me an eskimo kiss and Yosh was all psyched for me. When her set was over she asked me if I wanted a private dance. I said "Maybe later"

So she came over a little later and this other Jesse, who I had just met that night, bought me the private dance. I was led to the back and we chilled for a bit, waiting for the country music to be over. We were chatting about stuff... seemed like she had the typical dancer story: dancing is hard and she's looking for another job. Goddamn she was cute. I told her I was nervous, but not in a bad way. I think it was pure attraction, which I hadn't felt in a long time.

The dance was nice. I'll leave it at that.

After thanking her, I got up to walk back to my table. She asked me my name, which I told her. When I asked her her's, she told me... not her stage name but her real name. I didn't think girls in that industry did that. Maybe it was a fake real name... but still. Her stage name is Lacota/Lakota (sp?)

So we hung out for a bit and I heard she had another set coming up. The guys wanted to leave but I wanted to see her dance again. They started playing Damian Marley's All Night, which is one of my favorite songs on that album. Then they busted into Welcome to Jamrock which is so badass. I put up the requisite $2, then Jesse walked over and slammed down another $4.

When her set was done, I was going to give her my number (figured she'd be more likely to take mine than give me hers) but I chickened out.

Now, do I go back (seems a little sketchy) or get a # from a friend to get a guys # to get a dancer's # that works with Lakota?

Bobby thinks I should go through the network. DC Jesse thinks I should go back just to get her number.

We'll see...

post up them comments! I need help!!!

Medium flow? No, definitely High...

Well, Garry and I went kayaking on Saturday. We planned on running Fish to Bob's, which I had done once before at 800cfs or so. The gauge said 3400cfs on Friday, which is a lot of water, especially for someone of my limited skill level. Needless to say, I wasn't too shocked when I got tooled on pretty hard and learned that the gauge was actually around 5400cfs.

So we saw the waves under the bridge were pretty big. I held my own all the way through the wave but was a little too far to the left toward the end. I dropped off a big wave right into a pillow that hit me in the upper chest and face. Knocked me over right away and I tried to roll but brought my head up first, failing... wet exit lead to a little break, then back on the river.

Right before the next rapid, Rock and Roll, I got flipped and botched my roll again. I exited and tried to grab my paddle but missed. Garry tried throwing my paddle on the bank but didn't get it up there, and then he went after my boat. I ran upriver and swam across, making it just before Rock and Roll. I found Garry and my boat, no paddle. I hiked back to the van, no paddle.

Anyway, a rafter found my paddle and I'm buying my first 6 pack of PBR for him. At least I have my paddle back!!! Now on to the pool for some lessons... much needed lessons and practice!

she finally did something cool

Pandora... such a bad rap. Now, Pandora is very cool. The Music Genome People came out with a very cool application. Check it out and share your favorites! Mine are here

Good job Ramjet!

Wow... Reader is badass

I just found Google Reader today and it is WAY COOL. I've subscribed to only 3 feeds, so we'll have to see how it scales, but I'm sure it'll be fine. It's a nifty interface that I find much nicer than most of the standalone apps I've tried. Nice thing about it is I can log in and see my feeds from anywhere. Kudos!

And then while looking at some more Reader examples, I've found some other cool Ajax applications. Check these out!

  • retrievr - sketch in flash and get flickr pics

  • AjaxTrans - translate between languages in close to real time
